Inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry? Come and Try Embroidery for Yourself
Have you ever looked at the Bayeux Tapestry and wondered how people created something so incredible using nothing more than fabric, wool and a needle?
The original Bayeux Tapestry is one of the world's most famous examples of embroidery, telling the story of the Norman Conquest through thousands of stitches.
But you don't have to be an expert embroiderer to experience the joy of creating something with a needle and thread, and you don't have to travel and queue for hours to see it to be
inspired by it.

Come and explore embroidery with me
At Felicity Alice, you can come along to my studio and have a go at embroidery for yourself.
Rather than simply looking at historic textiles behind glass, you can pick up a needle, feel the fabric and thread between your fingers, learn the stitches and actually create something of your own.
There's something completely different about experiencing embroidery this way. You begin to understand how much time, patience and skill goes into even the smallest embroidered detail.
You start to notice how a simple line of thread can create a shape, a flower, a face or a story.
And once you've tried it yourself, you'll never look at an embroidered piece quite the same way again.
You don't need to be "good at embroidery"
Perhaps you've always wanted to try embroidery but don't know where to start. Maybe you've seen beautiful embroidery online and thought: "I'd love to make that, but I could never do it."
You absolutely can. My workshops are designed to be welcoming and accessible, whether you've never held an embroidery needle before or you're already a keen stitcher looking to learn something new. I'll guide you through the techniques step by step, show you how the stitches work and give you the opportunity to experiment for yourself.
There's no pressure to create a perfect piece.
It's about learning, trying, making and enjoying the process.

Feel the difference of making something by hand
One of my favourite things about embroidery is how tactile it is.
You can feel the texture of the fabric.
You can choose your threads.
You can pull the needle through the cloth and watch your design slowly appear.
You can sit, stitch and take a little time away from the busyness of everyday life.
And that's something I want people to experience when they come to my studio.
Not just learning a craft, but experiencing it.
From historic embroidery to your own story
The Bayeux Tapestry is over 900 years old, but the idea behind it still feels incredibly relevant.
People have always used textiles to record stories, memories and important moments.
Today, your embroidery might look very different. You could stitch a favourite flower, a pet, a name, handwriting, a meaningful date, or simply create something because you love the colours and textures. Your piece doesn't need to be enormous. It doesn't need to be historically accurate. It just needs to mean something to you.
